Top autumn reserves to visit in Essex

With shorter days, crisp temperatures, blazing colours and the arrival of familiar migratory birds, autumn in Essex is an exciting season, bustling with energy and opportunities. A time to enjoy leafy walks, toasting marshmallows over a fire and going fungi spotting!

Why not head to Chigborough Lakes to witness a sudden flash of blue as kingfishers hunt, the noisy roosting of little egrets and herons as well as a myriad of ducks and geese; all set to a backdrop of spectacular sunsets over the ponds and lakes. Or perhaps, go for a wander at our Danbury Ridge nature reserve for a weird and wonderful fungi hunt!

Essex Wildlife Trust have twelve recommended reserves to visit this autumn.
